Wanted to try my hand at birds, with these...what do you think?

The first one is best, since you got the eye. The focus seems just a little soft, though. The eye is the key to getting the viewer to connect with the animal, IMHO, and if you get the eye in sharp, a little softness elsewhere will not really hurt the shot. It's hard to get these little guys though, and the color is fantastic.

Agree on the eye, it's important to see that, and have a little catchlight for making the animal look alive. Only problem with the first shot is the branch behind the head. It's blurred a bit which helps though. The background is difficult to control - you take what you get many times with animals and birds.

Nice group of shots Freddy! Now I know where these birds are from.....they have a few in the zoo near me but the sign never said what corner of the globe they were from.

Nice group of shop[ts but the first one is best. May I suggest that if you put your pics in the thread and request opinions or critiques, you may want to add what the shooting details are.

Sharpness and focus on the eyes are the key. Birds and Monkeys are real tough.....
