View Full Version : I'm confused

I did a shoot yesterday with my 1D (RAW) and while running them through photoshop, the colors were spot on...very saturated, brilliant, I liked what I saw.

Now maybe, I'm just noticing this for the first time but I found it odd that when I "saved as" and optimized for the web in order to email a few of them to my friend (the model) the color saturation disappeared and became very flat.

Anyone else run into this?

Most of the loss is in the reds.

Sounds like there might be a profiling problem?

Try making a duplicate copy and converting profile to SRGB (I assume you worked in a wide space like Adobe RGB) before saving for web. The colors should remain more saturated when viewed in an un-color-managed environment (e.g. web browser).

When using the Save for Web feature of PS by default the profile is not embedded. This makes sense, since most web browsers are not color-managed. So if you are using a different profile than default sRGB you have to convert.

Make sure you are saving it as a .jpg and not a .gif file.

Well... One possibility is that your monitor profile is applied twice... If you use e.g. Adobe's utility (Adobe gamma loader) to load the profile, you shouldn't specify anything in the colour management tab under display property.

If your sRGB picture looks different when viewed in PS compared to IE, then you will want to check this out.

Thanks guys. I'll have to take a look at things when I get home. The part that confused me is that I have never run into this before and nothing has changed...well, at least nothing that I know of has changed.
