I am very curious as to why Canon only warranties their lenses for 1 year and Nikon warranties their for 5 years? The post that was made in regard to getting the focus of your lenses adjusted in this forum made me think of this.

I am a Canon shoot and a former Nikon Shooter, so this is my no means an attempt to start a flame war.

If I had to guess this has nothing to do with quality of build but rather a method to make money. The insurance business is huge money and I'll bet you pay a premium in the USA for the 5 year warranty no matter if you want to or not. Next, with Nikons refusal to service out of purchase area equipment you are forced to pay the premium, which means money in Nikon USA's coffers.

Also, If you look the international warranty is only 1 year so I bet I'm right!!
