I'm on the market for a sigma 180mm macro lens. I have found two, with only a twenty dollar price difference. They are different versions of the lens, and i cant find any review comparing the two. one is the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX DG IF HSM APO and the other is the EX HSM.

I dont know what the actual difference between these two lenses is. Both are internal focus, even though only one is labelled that way, and DG means its optimized for digital, which is worthless, because i'm still using film for macro.

so, is there any optical, build, AF, or other differences between the two?

Thanks a bunch, you guys are always really helpful.

I may be mistaken but I belive that the DG version is for the croped sensors and will not work propperly if at all on a full frame camera.

no, it's compatable with full frame. the DG just means its been "optimized for digital" (has a coating that reduces ghosting from the sensor guard) which i have found to be worthless from just about every manufacturer i've ever used. I only use pro bodies, they have higher quality guards, i've never had one ghost.

I'm thinking the new one has higher quality build, as the older version was a little shoddy in that area.

seems the newer one is the way to go, can't be anything but an upgrade from the old, considering it gets just as rave of reviews, and is more likely to be serviceable by sigma in the future
