My first semi-presentable shot with 1D Mk II

There's only so much I can shoot these days. As some of you know, I work at home and there are times that I don't go out for days or weeks at a time.

So I just had to step out of my front door to try out that beautiful 1D Mk II that I won. (Thank you, Steve!)

I was surprised to see this mockingbird. Unfortunately he didn't want to move anywhere else where the twigs would not be in the way. And I don't tend to photoshop much. But here is a resized jpg converted with C1.

Congratulations Olga. I'm sure you'll put the camera to good use! Not a bad shot coming out of the gate.

Re: My first semi-presentable shot with 1D Mk II

Thanks guys!

Had you been a fly on the wall, you would have had a good chuckle with me. I did try to go thru the online manual, before I even had the camera in my hands, to get an idea of where everything is. I even prepared myself for all those buttons that require multi-finger presses while at the same time you're supposed to be holding the camera. (They don't want you changing ISO by mistake, do they?)

In reality though the simplest things baffled me. First, the battery.. Why is it that I can't insert it till I almost stand on the darn thing? I had to call a friend to find out if I was doing something wrong as I didn't want to break anything.

But the most humourous (and stupid) part was when I was ready to take my first shot: Where's the mode dial? I looked up and down and around. Then I had to run back to my computer to look it up on the manual. (I hadn't opened the manual/software pouch yet.)

Re: My first semi-presentable shot with 1D Mk II

It's amazing how the human mind works. If someone hands me a 10D or 20D etc., I'm totally lost for a minute trying to figure out how to make things work. Humans inherently dislike whatever system they're not immediately accustomed to. You will cherish the multi-fingered approach. I sure do. Prevents accidently changes. I can't believe people complain about that. That is a huge positive for working photographers.

You'll have the new system down in no time.

That's a lovely shot, Olga. I know you are having fun. That image makes me have deep regrets for selling my mkII. Maybe I'll pick up one again someday. I am enjoying the new computer that I bought with some of the money.

Super shot.

First of many great shots you'll take with your new camera, no doubt.

Re: My first semi-presentable shot with 1D Mk II

Congrats again, and that's a very nice shot, much better than my first attempts for sure.

The buttons and menus can be a bit confusing at first but now I actually like it better than the 10D.
I'm still re-visiting the manual now and then though, there's quite a few options on this one. :-)
