Is this anything?

The yard lights in my garden have intrigued me for several days so tonight I thought I'd see if I could do something with them. To quote David Letterman, "Is this anything?"

Re: Is this anything?

It looks like an interesting picture, but I find the black very disctracting, and the yellow looks odd. But maybe that's just because my head says that the snow should be white.
I'd like to see some variation with a little more general illumination.

I think the top of that light needs to be discernable vs. the dark background. Having said that, it looks like the Martians have landed.

I agree. Just a little fill light from a low pwer flash or maybe even a bounce card. I like the texture of the snow, however...very cool looking.

Re: Is this anything?

Overall, I like the look and the concept, but the light fixture has got to go!

Dust off your "Cloning Tool", remove the fixture, and adjust it to look as though the light source is hidden in the pit behind the hump.

Back in the early 1980s I did a series of photos in a parking lot that had "mountains" of snow that had been plowed up. I shot at night using a strobe on a PC Cord to get some interesting lighting effects. The mercury vapor lights gave everything a very wierd greenish cast. The results looked like something out of "Alien".
