Question Credentials

I am interested in learning what classifieds an individual as a freelancer? And how one can obtain credentials as a freelance photographer for news? sporting events?

Thanks!

Re: Credentials

Seems like no one wants to touch this one. You have to start small at a local level where you don't need press credentials to photograph the local little league or or other similar event submit your photos to a local paper. Not a local paper with a large circulation but a local small town paper. There are photographer organizations that you can join that will give you credentials they are useless for the most part the organizations take advantage of photographers that want to become professionals. Most professional events issue credentials to working press with a letter of assignment to cover that event. The letter of assignment must come from a publication that the oragnizers accept as a lagetimate publication. Try contacting the organizers of the event and requesting a press pass. With experience at a local level you will increase you chances. If you do gain a press pass to an event remember to share the limited space with the other photographers don't get in their way to get your pictures share the space don't compete for space work with the other photographers and they will work with you.
