Red face Not a word in a Year....

Amazing what a bit of in Camera technolgy can do to the manufacturers of add in software......

I cannot remember when I last used neatimage............ even on a 3200 ISO image....

Weird....

How true. I've hardly used NI at all since switching from the D60. I will say that I used it routinely before, but now only to save mistakes where I've badly underexposed something.

Re: Not a word in a Year....

I just touched one up using the noise reduction in Adobe raw converter, and I don't need more than that.

Re: Not a word in a Year....

Didn't it show up in a not-so-obvious place? I expected it under filters, but I seem to recall it was tucked away elsewhere.

Re: Not a word in a Year....

The RAW filter goes in the folders with your other filters, IIRC. If you installed something from your camera manufacturer that's stealing the RAW files when they're opened from within PS, then you need to find that plugin and move it out of the PS filters folders to another safe place.

Re: Not a word in a Year....

I have wondered for a while what the future would hold for Noise Reduction programs as camera technology continues to improve in this regard. Regardless however, there will still be millions of pictures that have already been taken with noisier cameras.

Plus, for those who cannot afford the higher end cameras, like the 1DsMII and do not want to put themselves in more debt than they can assume, a noise reduction program can be of benefit in improving the quality of their output.

Yep, but if the noise happens to be of a banded sort, sometimes the programs can have difficulty with it. Plus, I'd often rather live with a bit of noise than plastic-y smooth output with that "digital" look.

Re: Not a word in a Year....

Interestingly, since the 1D2 and 1Ds2, I've never touched noise reduction software. It's 2007 tomorrow, and I cannot see it happening ever again. Perhaps with the Phase One, but for low light photos I'd pull out a Canon (so to speak).

Talking Interestingly . . .

With the advent of high ISO capability, these programs are regaining popularity. ISO 6400 in impossible conditions and a bit of neatimage...

just when you thought it was all dead!!

:-)

Re: Not a word in a Year....

I still use Noise Ninja on alot of my concert/club shots I process for the web. It reduces the noise from the 20D and I think what i really like is the sharpening feature too.
Of course, you'll rarely see a soft or blur type focus image from my work. Could be that I can achieve the same effect taking my glasses off. hahaha

Re: Not a word in a Year....

I still use noise ninja of course i also am still using my first dslr camera. It just grew on me. I know i could have traded in my rebel and my xt but why. I know how to use both of these cameras. and im able to get good quality shots. so why mess with it.
