Pricing help

I have been asked to photograph a fund raiser golf tournment for Jamie Moyer who is a Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher. Can anyone give me some idea of what to charge for an event like this. I don't have allot of info on it, I am calling the person who asked me to do the photos this week.

Re: Pricing help

You need to give us more info on this one eh?

What are you shooting exactly? the golders and/or the dinner, how about meet and greets?
How many hours will you be working?
How much time will you spend post processing?
Are you printing the pics or using a lab?
Are pictures to be delivered or mailed?
Any other bits of info we should know to help give you an idea?

imo..Moyer made a career of being a mediocre pitcher who was overpaid.
I would charge him a boatload and show up with about 20 kodak disposable cameras. hahahahhaha

Re: Pricing help

just charge him one cagillion dollars. ok your going to find that pricing of pictures is going to be an ellusive question at best. simply cuz nobody charges the same amount. so it all comes down to what you feel its worth simply put. think about the equipment you are using. and the time and effort your planning on putting into it and comming up with a price you feel is worth your time and effort.

What to charge at events?

I once asked this question when I was starting out and was told "As much as possible." That is tongue in cheek, but there is also a good lesson. You need to believe you are a great photographer and have confidence in what you do. In addition to that provide the best service you can. From there the answer is charge what you are worth.

Take a look around your area, the net is usefull and look at what other photographers charge. When you have found the range of fees being charged you will be able to look at what you are going to charge. I would recommend you are not the cheapest and ininitally you are not the most expensive. When I started I was told by a customer to doulbe my fees, so I did a month later I was told to double my fees again. Each time my workload increased. So Listening to your customers is an important aspect of setting fees.

When teaching people to set up/increase workload I talk about image a lot, image is often related to fees. Aim to be the best you can and set your fees in relation to that. You will find that these relationships effect one another.
