Your favorite pocket digicam.

For some, a pocket digicam is all that's needed. For DSLR owners, it may not always be convenient to carry a full DSLR kit. WHat's your favorite pocket Digicam?

Re: Your favorite pocket digicam.

I'm not sure if it really qualifies as "pocket", but I really like my Powershot G5. Except for noise at higher ISO, it's a great P&S to carry around.

Spot metering
Quick focusing
Nice wide 2.0 for low light shooting
Good macro performance

Re: Your favorite pocket digicam.

My favorite is a Canon S45. I bought this camera for my daughter last year and have been extremely happy with it. I often take it when I want something smaller. It can fit into a shirt pocket or my purse .

Doesn't fit in my pocket but mine is a Canon Powershot S1 IS. I'm happy with the pics I get from it.

Canon Elph S400 for me. I really like it a lot, and it stays in my pocket all the time. I also have the underwater kit for it.

My wishlist for it is really pretty short. It includes, in no particular order:

-->RAW support
-->Manual control, or at least more control over and info regarding exposure settings
-->Better higher ISO noise performance
-->28mm-equivalent wide end

The S1 is a great camera, I agree. So I bought a belt pouch to carry mine!

Re: Your favorite pocket digicam.

My old Canon G1 is a little big for most pockets but it's lens and picture quality still impress me.

Last year I toured Europe carrying a backpack with 30 lbs worth of DSLR camera, lenses and a Laptop while my wife used the G1.

When I got home and processed the RAW images there was surprisingly little difference between the two and when loaded on a CD for slide shows, I can hardly see a difference. Granted, the noise factor was apparent in low light conditions and some highlights were blown out but if Canon ever comes out with a 10D sized sensor in a Powershot Pro? then I'll sell the heavy stuff and travel light.

I did look seriously at the Panasonic FX7 but never bought one.

Re: Your favorite pocket digicam.

I wish my old IXUS produced better pictures, I like the format and build quality. It's really showing its age though. I also have a Pentax Optio weather resistant P&S, a bit bigger and better picture quality but the square format and the fact it offers very little creative control (only a whole bunch of preset programs) makes it less appealing to me. I think I'll give it away to my sister's sons. The digital SLRs really spoil you for control and picture quality, if not for portability.
