Re: Mack Warranties

I haven't posted here in quite awhile but when I saw the topic of Mack Camera warranties I couldn't resist commenting. When I bought my first DSLR I bought a Mack warranty. I won't go into all the details but 3 years in, I sent it to Mack because I thought the meter was off causing under exposure. While Mack assured me that they thorougly tested it and found nothing wrong, I am convinced that they didn't do much beyon turning the camera on. When I bought my second DSLR I never even considered a Mack warranty and would never spend an extra dime to get another one. As far as I am concerned, it isn't worth the paper and ink it takes to print the certificate. My advise for anyone considering the warranty would be to go buy yourself a lottery ticket instead. In my opinion, the odds are getting satisfaction and winning the lottery are about the same.

Re: Mack Warranties

hmmm seems kinda odd my experience with mack was a pleasant one but then again my camera was defective without question where as your camera may have been defective but maybe there really wasnt anything wrong with it but unless you have had the camera tested and found that indeed something was indeed wrong with the in camera metering we will never know.

Re: Mack Warranties

We use the same diagnostic systems as the manufacturers do to test exposure and metering systems. Whether you sent it to us or to the manufacturer you would have received the same answer.

Keep this in mind -

Let's say you spent $35 on the service contract...

Now let's say you didn't...

You sent the camera to the manufacturer which charges flat rates even if the repair is a simple adjustment. Let's say they charge you $150 to repair the camera back to manufacturer specs but they found nothing wrong. It still may cost you $80 just to get that answer. You would have saved money by spending the $35 on the service contract which covers any manufacturer defects for 3,4, or 5 years depending on the contract.

Since releasing the Diamond Service Contract many customers have been sending there cameras in with impacts and non manufacturer defect problem. Let's say the Diamond on the same camera is $79 instead of $35. It is still worth it for many people.

But then, we all have our opinions and choices. Thus is life. We are not a company to force people into buying our product.

Scott

Re: Mack Warranties

I'm not disputing Mack's diagnostic systems, I don't believe my camera was tested at all.

I read many horror stories about Mack before buying my first warranty and I chose to ignore them. I now have my own horror story. As far as I am concerned, the warranty is a waste of money. I would advise anyone who ask to spend the money on something concrete like memory, filter... Chances are if your equipment breaks, it will be during the warranty period. If it is out of warranty, pay the difference and send it to the manufacture. That is what I do now.

I am sorry you feel that way but we are an honorable company. We don't say we did something if we did not.

Re: Mack Warranties

I wouldnt think you could call it a horror story about mack warranties because you didnt believe they tested thats just an assumption on your part founded or not. I also believe mack did right by me. If i hadnt had the mack warrantie who knows how much it would have cost me to fix my problem
