FECSet Software: Got Any Input?

I saw this link http://revolution.cx/rcx/fecset.htm concerning an free FEC program for the Digital Rebel.

Currently, I am too new (and equally cautious) to try anything like this on a brand new Digital Rebel. Some day I will make the move to the Russian hack.

Does anyone have anything to say about FECSet?

Thanks,
Lupe in San Antonio

Re: FECSet Software: Got Any Input?

Whilst this isn't a "Canon approved software", I don't really see how it could do any damage to use this.

It's talking to the camera, changing a setting that doesn't have a menu entry, but you should be able to change it back by using the same software again.

It doesn't do the same thing that the "hacked firmware" does, which is to replace the firmware in the camera with a version that contains some quite different code. That's where you could cause damage to the camera (well, not really damage, but the firmware may be corrupted, which in isn't what you'd be able to claim on the warranty if the firmware you "upgrade to" isn't approved by Canon).

Of course, since it seems that your external flash-unit will not work with your camera, it may be a bit of a moot point at the moment.
