I'm sure you all recall our little discussion about a month ago concerning backup schemes?
At that time I staunchly claimed a shelf time for CD-Rs that may have been a tad on the optimistic side. About, oh, 100 years too optimistic.
PC Active tested data disks from 30 manufacturers that were recorded 20 months ago. Several data CDs developed serious errors, or became virtually unreadable.
All is not lost though:
Unfortunately, the article seems to focus on white label CD-Rs, and doesn't mention any premium brands that performed well.
Hopefully buying Verbatim, TDK or other premium brands will keep the problem at bay. In the mean time, it's probably prudent to double-check what brands you use and perhaps re-burn some of your older CDs.[/url]
