Very creative Nik! Tell us how did you set this shot up. I am guessing some hdr with a paste of the bulb.

Great job - execution is powerful. I would only tone down that (nearly) blown highlight along the side of the thumb. I love the texture in the bulb (dust?), it really draws your eye upwards.

yeah nik, how did you do this? agree with steff about the blowout on the hand. lots of good work coming out of your image factory. seems like the stock experienced has produced some powerful but simple pix. not easy to do.

Hey thanks everyone. Yea, I think a lot in terms of stock concepts lately it seems.

Bill, no HDR on this (i do have a few in my gallery though, can you find them? ).

Bob, I have my moments.

Stef, I thought the bulb actually had some sort of texture when I looked at the photo but after re examining the bulb I guess it was dust, I bought it new for this idea. Yes, the blown out side of the hand bothers me too, in the cramped space I shoot these its hard to get the ideal image.

Kevin, two magic words, "clone tool". Lighting wise I had my nifty ten dollar clamp light semi behind the shot spot so it wouldn't illuminate the black backdrop. Took 2 shots, one holding just the bulb and the other holding the plugged in light then combined in PS.

Now you all know my magic trick, guess I'll have to think of some more.

I dont think the blown side of the hand looks bad, tho Id be interested in the agencies verdict. I like the attention you paid to clean well groomed nails. Im assuming this was paid attention to with the stock use in mind?

Looks great

I agree with the positive comments from the others, Nik. I also think I know why I (and maybe others) don't like the blown-out hand/thumb ... the source of light in the photo should be the bulb you're holding, not an off-image light. You might consider reshooting the 'plugged in light' shot, only this time, hold a light source that's bright enough to satisfactorily light your hand. That way, the lit portions of your hand will be the tips of your fingers and part of your palm ... just an idea [pun fully intended, can't let Bill have all the fun :>) ]

Thanks Owen, I'm a stock junkie as of late.

Sparky, thats a good idea. Sometimes when I get mine I get all wound up and dive in head first without covering all the bases.
