My wife's dwarf sunflowers are just coming into bloom. This image looked a little soft to me, so I applied the 'Brush Strokes - Accented Edges' filter to "rescue" it. I'm fairly happy with the result. What do you think?

I like it, but that probably won't surprise anyone since I am a fan of the part art/part photo type shots. Sunflower shots are always strike me as such happy shots too. Did you use layers, or work on the original?

Thanks for the comments, QJ. I agree that sunflower shots always seem happy.

Usually I use layers (my original degree was in CAD/CAM), but this time I worked directly on the original. I'm curious ... why do you ask?

What effect did you use on the background and in the center?

I liked the composition, but didn't get quite enough DOF ... a couple of the petals were OOF. So, I decided to apply an "artistic" filter to it and started playing around in PS. After a bunch of failed trial-and-error (I'm a master of the cntl-z command ), I applied the 'Brush Strokes - Accented Edges' filter with default settings and the resulting image is pretty much what you see. I sharpened it bit after reducing the image size for web publishing. Otherwise, straight 'Accented Edges'.
