Half Dome dominates Yosemite Valley but can look very different from different locations. Everybody tries one of these shots from Sentinel Bridge near Yosemite Village and some (not this one) are truly remarkable depending on the sky/lighting. The problem is Half Dome is about 3 stops brighter than the river and trees, so you have to use a filter or combine two (or more) shots in PS. This is a layered composition from two exposures.

A difficult shot to get because of the huge exposure range. You got the river just right, but the sky is a bit washed out. I have the same shot but ended up with a much darker river/trees to get the sky to come out (I also ended up with an over-filtered look, I think). I like the water/tree detail. If only there had been a dinosaur in the shot...

Thanks for the input Mike, you're right, I can probably pull more detail out of the sky.
