Leica Camera is introducing the new LEICA M8 at Photokina in Cologne (September 26, 2006 to October 1, 2006). It is the first digital camera to use the Leica viewfinder system. All the key characteristics of the analog Leica reporter’s camera such as the compact design, the exceptional picture quality in conjunction with the Leica M lenses and the unique picture composition using the Leica viewfinder have been seamlessly carried over into the digital world.

Leica Camera is introducing the new LEICA DIGILUX 3 at Photokina in Cologne (September 26th to October 1st, 2006). The LEICA DIGILUX 3 is the first purely digital Leica mirror reflex system camera with exchangeable lenses, thereby opening up a third variety of free-standing camera system under the Leica name. As the first model of the new Leica D system, the LEICA DIGILUX 3 is fitted with a bayonet lens to the FourThirds Standard, the open systems standard for digital mirror reflex cameras. Together with the high-performance LEICA D VARIO–ELMARIT 2.8-3.5/28-100 mm ASPH exchangeable lens, this offers the photographer many possibilities for composition of individual pictures.

LEICA V-LUX1 compact digital camera with extreme focal length range for ambitious photographers

Leica Camera is introducing the new LEICA V-LUX 1 at Photokina in Cologne (September 26, 2006 to October 1, 2006). The LEICA V-LUX 1 is a digital compact camera which combines high-performance optics and outstanding picture quality in a compact camera body. The camera offers 10 million pixels and a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT 1:2.8-3.7/35-420 mm ASPH lens, thus commanding universal capability for the small picture system. From spacious landscape shots, filigree macro close-up shots through to photos of far distant objects in super telephoto mode, the lens with its 12 times zoom creates outstanding picture results in all photographic situations. The integral picture stabilizer gives the user additional protection against camera shake, even under difficult lighting conditions. The LEICA V-LUX 1 has a tilting 2.0” TFT display for optimum picture checking. Thus the photographer is assured of secure control even in difficult situations for photography and gains additional possibilities for picture composition by means of unusual camera perspectives. A variety of manual settings, including a diverse subject program for many photographic situations, round out the creative composition possibilities of the LEICA V-LUX 1.

LEICA D VARIO-ELMARIT 14-50mm/F2.8- 3.5 ASPH Interchangeable Lens with Optical Image Stabilization System

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 26 -- Leica Camera AG and Panasonic are pleased to announce development of a new interchangeable lens based on the Four Thirds standard. Featuring a focal length from 14mm to 50mm (35mm equivalent: 28mm to 100mm), the new LEICA D VARIO-ELMARIT 14-50mm/F2.8- 3.5 ASPH lens is the first interchangeable lens from Leica developed exclusively for digital SLR cameras. The "D" signifies that it is designed for the new digital system.

Adobe Digital Negative Specification Gains Momentum with Hasselblad and Leica Support

SAN JOSE, Calif. — March 8, 2005 — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that Hasselblad and Leica Camera AG are among the first camera manufacturers to commit to support the Digital Negative Specification (DNG). Hasselblad will work to allow export to the Digital Negative (.DNG) file format and Leica plans to include native support within their new camera models. Just a few months after Adobe announced the free Adobe DNG Converter, which translates all Photoshop® supported raw photo formats into the new universal .DNG file format, Hasselblad and Leica, along with respected software companies Phase One (Capture One), DxO Labs, Extensis Portfolio and iView, have rallied around this single unified file format for archiving raw files.

LEICA DIGITAL-MODUL-R: The world's first digital 35mm camera back

This year's photokina photo trade fair in Cologne will witness the presentation of the world's first digital 35mm camera back by Leica Camera AG, Solms. Using the LEICA DIGITAL-MODUL-R, the analog SLR cameras LEICA R8 and R9 can be transformed into digital cameras in next to no time. Any of the high-performance lenses of the Leica R system made after 1965 can be used in combination with this new development to produce top-quality digital and analog photos. The photographer can decide from photo to photo whether to benefit from the fast communication possibilities and direct result checking offered by digital photography or opt for the permanence, authenticity and emotional quality of silver halide photography.
